2018 - A Year in Review and a Look to the Future!

2018 has been another eventful and successful year for the business – so please excuse us for a moment while we indulge in a somewhat Dickensian reflection on where we’ve been, where we are, and where we’re going…

So hold on to your hats, and let us take you on a journey to the past, the present and the future!

The Past & Present

The last 12 months have been monumental for the evolution of AmcoGiffen. We’ve entered new markets, secured some brilliant Network Rail Asset tender wins, and been awarded the SNE Lot 3 Renewals and Enhancement framework. We’ve rebranded, gained traction in the industry, and continued to develop the pioneering merger of AMCO and The Giffen Group.

But do you want to know what’s really been making us excited this year? Our people! We’re so proud of how our colleagues have been going above and beyond to support each other, to embrace our corporate social responsibility, and generally just to help make our corner of the world that little bit better (it’s Christmas…we’re allowed to be cheesy…)!

This has been displayed through various initiatives, including:

The AmcoGiffen Academy

On the 8th of October, we were delighted to open our very own AmcoGiffen Academy! Working in collaboration with the Head of Barnsley's Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre, our 'Learning & Skills Academy', specialises in providing mechanical and electrical engineering and construction qualifications for 16 and 17 year olds. We currently have 39 learners who are progressing as full time learners and we are holding interviews to employ 9 apprentices!

Identifying the varied training needs and potential within each and every candidate, we're dedicated to bridging our industrial skills gap and safeguarding the future of tomorrow’s generation!

Volunteering Challenge!

Since the implementation of our 3-day a year volunteering initiative, we’ve had a huge and passionate response from AmcoGiffen employees, ensuring that we’re helping countless groups and individuals across the nation. Some of these have included refurbishing a wildlife centre, making care packs for homeless people, painting and restoring local schools, picking up litter, providing entertainment at hospices, and preserving local spots of natural beauty!

A few more fun facts

  • Since the selection of our chosen charity, we have raised over £3000 for Children with Cancer UK!
  • We have received award recognition for 8 projects and initiatives, including winning Barnsley’s ‘Best Health Intervention’ award for our SuperWellness nutrition programme!
  • We have now delivered circa 250 mental health toolbox talks, and boast an incredible 53 mental health first aiders!

The Future

Going in to 2019 and CP6 with a solid work-bank and a well-earned reputation, AmcoGiffen’s future is looking bright. Launching our new SHEQ 24/7 strategy, embracing the innovation of modern technologies, and strengthening our existing teams, we’re excited to see what next year brings!

Rounding off 2018 with some well-deserved praise, Managing Director, Andries Liebenberg said; “All that is left for me to do is to thank each and every one of you for the hard work and effort you have put in over the past year. Our collective success really wouldn’t be possible without your commitment. I’d like to wish you a relaxing festive break, but please spare a thought for those who will be working instead of spending this time with their friends and family. I’d like to personally thank you for giving up this precious time and commend your dedication. See you all in the New Year!”
